A Social Index Provides A Platform For Conscious Investment.

The stock market has long been governed by the NASDAQ, Dow Jones and S&P500, but over time it has become clear that a new index was required. In 1990 the benchmark FTSE KLD 400 Social Index was founded to help socially conscious investors weigh social and environmental factors in their investment choices, by providing exposure to the common stocks of 400 companies that KLD determines have positive Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) characteristics.

The governing committee selects a mix of factors such as community relations, diversity, employee relations, human rights, product quality and safety, and environment and corporate governance to evaluate companies for inclusion, both in the context of their industry and sector, as well as in relation to the broader market. The composition of holdings is approximately 90% large capital companies, 9% mid and 1% small cap companies with exemplary social and environmental records.
