Govinda Upadhyay – Making The Future Brighter.

No Comment 70 Views

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” This well known proverb is the perfect analogy to describe what Govinda Upadhyay is trying to accomplish as CEO and co-founder of LED Safari. Selected as a finalist in the ‘Forbes Under 30 $1M Change The World’ and winners of the EIT Awards (European Institute of Innovation & Technology), the future is looking bright for this social start-up.

Believing that one solar lamp can change the world, his company has designed an innovative solar lamp, made up of only five electrical components (a small solar panel, a battery, an LED bulb, a switch and the electric circuit), which can be self-assembled by anyone, using anything from a used plastic water bottle to an empty yoghurt container.

Focused predominantly on developing countries, the goal is to transform the lives of millions of kids by not only giving them access to a light source by which they can study and improve their living conditions, but also through the experience and knowledge that comes from assembling the lamp. At a cost of $5 p/kit, this MIY (Make It Yourself) light source is a clear no-brainer to replace the much more expensive kerosene normally used.
