PINPOINTING: The Disruption Mandate.

No Comment 16 Views

The need to address growing imbalances in income and resources—and the desire to harness the potential of quickly advancing technology—creates a near-constant mandate for innovation in order to stay relevant…and employed! Brand (or even category) survival is not guaranteed in a world when all is up for reinvention.

A 2013 McKinsey Global Institute report  identifies 12 technologies that could drive truly massive economic transformations and disruptions in the coming year, stating that “applications of the 12 technologies discussed in the report could have a potential economic impact between $14 trillion and $33 trillion a year in 2025.” The study is based on an in-depth analysis of key potential applications and the value they could create in a number of ways, including the consumer surplus that arises from better products, lower prices, a cleaner environment, and better health.

This week we’re focusing on some highly disruptive ways technology is shifting education, science, publishing and more, provoking the questions: what is it that gives the architects of this disruption the courage to leap in? And what does that mean for current structures?
